The Faith Community

Our small faith community is very welcoming, prayerful and caring.  We meet each Friday evening at 6pm to celebrate the Eucharist, thanks to some very generous retired priests who have served us over the past 5 years—Rev Michael O’Connor RIP; Rev Tony Storey RIP , occasionally Mgr Kevin Coughlan and now Rev Paul Sacco SM. We are hugely indebted to them.

Our weekly celebrations are prayerful and the community sing very well.  Friday evening is not ideal for everyone, especially our one time young people, whom we keep in our prayers but miss very much.

We are part of the wider Catholic Community in this part of East Hull, along with Sacred Heart Church and St Bede’s. The local parish priest is Fr Dominique Minskip and he is very supportive of St Stephen’s and all we do here.

St Stephen’s has the following weekday services in the house chapel:

Celebration of the Word with Communion on Monday 6.15 and Thursday after Lunch Club at 1.30. in the house chapel.

Morning Prayer & Communion on Wednesday 9.30; In this way the community gathers for prayer most days to call down God’s help and guidance and care for all around us.

The RCIA or ‘Journey in Faith’ runs weekly on Wednesdays 6-7.15pm in the house. This is for all 3 churches and is held here in our large and comfortable parish room.

We also run 2 community bingo sessions—Monday and Thursday 6.45 for 7.15;

and a Lunch Club on Thursdays at 12 noon in term time. These sources of income help the church to meet its financial commitments.

St Stephen’s Housebound Group is 30 years old in 2012 and continues to be the ‘backbone’ of all that has developed here over the years, thanks to the generosity of so many volunteers. For the Housebound story see their separate entry.

We are a Fairtrade Church, serving Fairtrade tea & coffee at all our events. We also hold stalls of fairly traded goods, especially in Fairtrade Fortnight.
