Summer Program of 2024: what a blast!
Â
From the beginning of August to the end of the month we opened up our doors (with the help of #HAF and other funders), to the local people of Greatfield. Each week we posted updates on our Facebook page including pictures from the activities we put on, reminders of upcoming sessions, and a couple other activities in the area that were either low cost and/or free entry.
Â
On these posts – many users of our community services commented on the activities. The overall majority of parents and young peoples’ opinions on what we did? Positive. Which is always great, isn’t it?
Â
Here are just some of the comments we received:
Â

We have placed them here by way of us thanking you for coming and using your local community centre. We hope we continue to be of service to you in Greatfield and the surrounding areas; putting on events ourselves, or in conjunction with other agencies. These are often opportunities (put on free of charge) for people to be inspired, to be sociable, to feel part of something and know that they are not alone: cheesy, but true.
Â
Anyway, enough unrestrained enthusiasm from us. Scroll down to view the SSNC Summer program from start to finish…
Tuesday 6th August – East Hull Community Farm
A trip to the local animal welfare site.Â
Wednesday 7th August – Play Days @ Kneeshaw Park, Bilton Grange
A chance to run around, carefree, and burn off some energy – to socialise with friends in a way that does not involve screens. (Yes, we realise the irony of reading about said activities… from a screen.)Â
Thursday 8th August – Laser QuestÂ
Yet another activity encouraging young people to take care of their physical and mental health – without thinking too deeply about it. Sometimes, it’s enough to chase after friends with laser guns, hit targets, and protect your team.Â
Â
Tuesday 13th August – Hornsea Trip (11-16 years)Â
Sunny seaside day travelling out to the local village of Hornsea.Â
Wednesday 14th August – Stonebridge ParkÂ
Local park day again, using local facilities.Â
Thursday 15th August – Cooking & Foam Craft
Indoor activity, making and creating something new – and pretty darn fabulous.Â
Tuesday 20th August – Hornsea Family Trip
Trip out to the local seaside village again, and this time we enabled local families to come and join in the fun.Â
Wednesday 21st August – Sports & GamesÂ
An array of activities on this day, with games made independently by some young people, and support in place by our wonderful team of youth workers.Â
Thursday 22nd August – Cooking & T-shirt DesignÂ
Another indoor day, and another creative venture: designing and refining patterns/pictures/and all sorts on t-shirts.Â
Tuesday 27th August – Talent Show
And… if the past three weeks of our offerings weren’t enough, the young people who attend here gave it their all in a winner takes all Talent Show – that is, all of the prize. (It was a tough decision to make because all contestants were flipping fabulous.)
Wednesday 28th August – Family Crafts
Towards the end of our Summer program we like to hand over to those local people who attend here, providing you were materials, and you make and create what you like… which in turn helps us. It helps us know what you would like to see and take from our services in the future – so thank you.Â
Thursday 29th August – Family Fun Day
This is where we took the rest of the allocated funds and provided the local area with a place to come, to local at local folks crafty creations – and help them out as they help us out, to jump around on a bouncy castle, to chat and smile and laugh… and you often make us laughter too. (In a positive way, we can promise you that!)
*Pictures and more to come soon*Â
